Carpet Beetle Larva
Scientific Name: Anthrenus verbasci
Order & Family: Order: Coleoptera, Family: Dermestidae
Size: 1-5 mm

Natural Habitat
Commonly found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas like closets, under furniture, in carpets, and drawers where they can find food.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on a variety of materials of animal origin, including wool, fur, feathers, silk, leather, hair, and dead insects. They may also infest stored food products like flour and cereals.
Behavior Patterns
The larval stage is the primary feeding and destructive stage. They are slow-moving, avoid light, and will molt several times as they grow. The presence of shed larval skins is a common sign of infestation. Adult beetles fly and are attracted to light, often found near windows.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: They are a common household pest that can cause significant damage to clothing, carpets, upholstery, and other natural fiber items. The bristly hairs of the larvae can cause skin irritation or an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. Benefits: In nature, they play a role as decomposers, breaking down dead insects and animal matter.
