Clover Mite

Natural Habitat

Commonly found in lush lawns with high nitrogen, nearby rocks, and on the sunny exterior walls of buildings during spring and fall.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they use their piercing mouthparts to suck juices from more than 200 different plant species, especially grasses and clover.

Behavior Patterns

They are parthenogenetic (females reproduce without mating). They often congregate in large numbers on sunny surfaces and may accidentally invade homes in search of shelter during temperature changes.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans or pets and do not transmit disease. They are considered a nuisance pest because they leave red stains if crushed on fabrics or walls, but they do not cause structural or serious indoor damage.
