Natural Habitat
Found exclusively indoors, primarily in crevices of mattresses, bed frames, headboards, and upholstered furniture in human dwellings.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans and occasionally pets.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages that each require a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
They do not transmit disease but cause itchy, red welts and significant psychological distress or insomnia. They can trigger allergic reactions in some individuals.
