Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, primarily hiding in mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and headboards.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal before each molt. They often leave characteristic 'linear' bite patterns.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy welts, allergic reactions, and secondary skin infections from scratching. They are significant psychological stressors but are not known to transmit diseases to humans.
