Natural Habitat

Gardens, fields, forest edges, and anywhere they can construct a web between plants or structures.

Diet & Feeding

Insects such as flies, mosquitoes, bees, wasps, grasshoppers, and other small flying or jumping insects caught in their web.

Behavior Patterns

Known for building large, intricate orb webs, often with a prominent zig-zag silk stabilization pattern (stabilimentum) in the center. They typically hang head-down in the center of their web. They are generally non-aggressive and will flee or drop from their web when disturbed.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Bites are rare and generally harmless to humans, often described as less painful than a bee sting, causing localized pain, swelling, and redness. They are not considered medically significant. Benefits: They are excellent pest controllers, devouring a large number of common garden and agricultural pests.
