Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages, feeding exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, mainly humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. The dark spots shown are digested blood deposited as fecal matter after feeding.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include skin irritation and itchy welts from bites, possible secondary infections, and significant psychological distress; they are not known vectors of disease.
