Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, specifically living in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, and furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood during the night.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and are attracted to the CO2 and body heat of hosts at night. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages.
Risks & Benefits
A significant public health pest causing itchy welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress/insomnia. They do not typically transmit diseases but can cause secondary skin infections from scratching.
