Diet & Feeding

Larvae primarily feed on soil fungi, algae, and decaying plant matter, but can damage plant roots. Adults do not feed.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are weak fliers and often stay near the surface of the soil. They are attracted to lights and carbon dioxide. They have a short life cycle of about 3 to 4 weeks.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a nuisance pest. Larvae can damage roots of seedlings and young plants, potentially introducing fungal diseases like Pythium. They do not bite or sting humans.
