Nocturnal and highly gregarious; they reproduce rapidly, with females carrying egg cases (oothecae) until shortly before hatching.

Significant pest; can trigger asthma and allergies, and spread various pathogenic bacteria (such as Salmonella and E. coli) through contamination of food and surfaces.
