Booklouse
Scientific Name: Psocoptera (various species)
Order & Family: Order Psocoptera
Size: 1-2 mm

Natural Habitat
Damp, warm, and dark places with a food source. They are often found in books, papers, stored food products, wall voids, and under wallpaper. They thrive in high humidity conditions.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on microscopic molds, fungi, starches, glues in books and wallpaper, and microscopic organic debris. They are not blood feeders.
Behavior Patterns
Booklice are soft-bodied, wingless (or with undeveloped wings) insects that are generally harmless but can be a nuisance when numerous. They are often active in the dark and prefer undisturbed areas. High humidity is a key factor in their survival and reproduction.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include being a nuisance pest, contaminating food products (though rarely), and causing minor damage to books, papers, or wallpaper by feeding on glues and starches. They do not bite humans or pets, nor do they transmit diseases. They have no significant known benefits to humans or ecosystems, other than being a minor part of the detritus food chain.
