Natural Habitat

Found in both natural and domestic environments, preferring high humidity and dark conditions. Commonly found in bathrooms, basements, attics, and kitchens.

Diet & Feeding

They feed on carbohydrates such as sugars and starches, including paper, book glue, fabric (cotton, linen, silk), cereals, and dandruff.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and move very quickly in a fish-like swimming motion. They are primitive, wingless insects that go through simple metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).

Risks & Benefits

They pose no direct risk to human health (they do not bite or carry disease) but are considered pests because they can damage books, wallpaper, clothing, and pantry foods.
