Size: 1/4 to 1/2 inch (approx. 5 to 15 mm) in length

Natural Habitat
Typically found in moist soil and leaf litter on lawns or in garden mulch; they often migrate into garages or houses after heavy rain.
Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed primarily on decaying organic plant matter and microscopic organisms.
Behavior Patterns
They are terrestrial crustaceans that require high humidity; when it becomes too wet (flooding) or too dry, they leave their habitat and travel, often resulting in mass sightings and accidental indoor entry where they quickly die from desiccation.
Risks & Benefits
They are harmless to humans and pets, as they do not bite or sting. They benefit the ecosystem as decomposers by recycling nutrients back into the soil.
