Booklice

Natural Habitat

Indoor environments with high humidity, damp basements, bookshelves, pantries, and behind wallpaper. They thrive on mold/fungi growing on organic materials.

Diet & Feeding

Mainly micro-fungi, mold, and spores. They also feed on starch-based materials like book bindings, wallpaper paste, and occasionally cereal grains if damp.

Behavior Patterns

They are wingless, soft-bodied insects that move in quick, jerky movements. They do not undergo a larval stage but develop through several nymphal stages that resemble small adults.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite or transmit diseases and are generally harmless to humans and pets. However, large infestations can cause minor damage to books or food supplies and indicate moisture or mold issues in a home.
