Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; both larvae and adults feed on the foliage of plants in the Solanaceae and Convolvulaceae families.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae have a unique habit of carrying their own excrement and cast skins (a fecal shield) on their backs as a defense mechanism against predators. Adults are distinguished by their transparent, shell-like wing covers.

Risks & Benefits

Considered a minor garden pest as it may cause cosmetic damage to leaves; however, it rarely causes significant yield loss. Not harmful to humans.
