Size: Typically 12–19 mm (0.5–0.75 in) in length, excluding the tail filaments.

Natural Habitat
They thrive in dark, humid environments such as basements, bathrooms, attics, and kitchens. They seek out moisture and starchy materials.
Diet & Feeding
Polyphagous feeders that consume matter containing polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives. They eat paper, photos, book bindings, wallpaper glue, sugar, hair, and dandruff.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive, they move quickly in a fish-like wiggle (hence the name). They are known for their longevity and can survive for long periods without food if water is available.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Considered household pests because they can damage property (books, wallpaper, clothing) and contaminate food. Benefits: They do not bite or sting humans and serve as decomposers in the wild, though inside a home they offer little benefit.
