Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, specifically cracks and crevices in furniture, mattresses, bed frames, and behind baseboards.
Diet & Feeding
Obligative hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal, emerging at night to feed on sleeping hosts. They exhibit hemimetabolous metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without a meal.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and significant psychological distress; they are not known to transmit diseases to humans. They provide no ecosystem benefits in domestic settings.
