Psocid (also known as Booklice)

Natural Habitat

Damp, high-humidity environments such as basements, bathrooms, or around leaky pipes; often found on paper, books, wallpaper, or food items in pantries.

Diet & Feeding

Microscopic fungi, mold, mildew, grain dust, and starch-based glues (like those found in book bindings).

Behavior Patterns

They are wingless, moisture-loving insects that scavenge for food. While they do not bite or sting, they can multiply quickly if moisture and food sources are available. They are often active during periods of high humidity.

Risks & Benefits

They are generally harmless to humans and pets as they do not transmit disease or bite. However, they can be a nuisance or contaminate stored food products. They serve as an indicator that a moisture/mold problem may exist in the area.
