Natural Habitat
Moist, humid, and dark areas such as basements, attics, kitchens, and bathrooms. They are often found in cracks and crevices near food sources.
Diet & Feeding
Starchy substances and polysaccharides, including paper, book bindings, wallpaper paste, cereal, flour, sugar, and dried meat.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and extremely fast-moving. They undergo ametabolic development (no metamorphosis), meaning they look like smaller versions of adults throughout their lives. They are known for their fish-like wiggling motion when running.
Risks & Benefits
They are considered household pests as they can damage books, photos, and clothing. They do not bite humans or transmit diseases, but they can be a nuisance and may trigger allergies in some people due to their shed scales and droppings.
