Pubic Louse Nit (Egg)

Size: 0.8 to 1.0 millimeters (roughly pinhead or sesame seed size)

Natural Habitat
Exclusively inhabits coarse human body hair, primarily in the pubic region, but occasionally found on eyelashes, eyebrows, armpit hair, or coarse facial hair.
Diet & Feeding
The developing nymph inside feeds on the yolk; upon hatching, the lice feed exclusively on human blood.
Behavior Patterns
Nits are firmly cemented to hair shafts near the skin surface. They do not move. After 6-10 days, they hatch into nymphs. The adult lice are sedentary, grasping hair with claw-like legs.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Causes intense itching (pruritus) and can lead to secondary bacterial skin infections from scratching. They are a parasitic nuisance spread through close physical contact. Benefits: None known to humans or the ecosystem.
