Size: Typically resembles a grain of rice or cucumber seed; 3-12 mm long.

Natural Habitat
Intestinal tract of dogs and cats; externally found on host's fur, anus, or bedding.
Diet & Feeding
Absorbs nutrients from the host's digestive tract.
Behavior Patterns
Mature segments detach from the main worm and exit through the anus. When dry, they look like golden sesame seeds. They may wiggle when fresh.
Risks & Benefits
Generally low zoonotic risk to healthy adults, but can be transmitted to humans (especially children) if an infected flea is ingested. Indicates a flea infestation in pets.
