Natural Habitat
Found worldwide in human dwellings, typically in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, and crevices near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on animal blood, primarily human blood.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to progress through each stage and to reproduce.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions, psychological distress, and secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits.
