Behavior Patterns
The larval stage is the destructive phase of the life cycle. They are photophobic (avoid light) and prefer dark, undisturbed areas. They undergo multiple molts before pupating into adult beetles.

Risks include damage to household textiles, clothing, and upholstered furniture. For humans, their bristly hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis,' an allergic reaction resulting in itchy, red bumps or rashes.
