Typically found in dark, damp, and cool areas of human dwellings such as basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics.

Diet & Feeding

Known for consuming matter that contains polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives. This includes book bindings, photos, sugar, hair, dandruff, and organic debris.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and extremely fast-moving. They undergo ametabolous metamorphosis (lacking larval stages) and can live for up to eight years, molting throughout their entire life.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite or transmit diseases, but they are considered household pests because they can damage books, wallpaper, and clothing. They may also trigger allergies in some people.
