Natural Habitat
Damp, dark, and humid environments; commonly found in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and attics.
Diet & Feeding
Starchy substances, sugars, and carbohydrates (detritivores). They eat book bindings, carpet fibers, glue, wallpaper paste, paper, and certain fabrics.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and extremely fast-moving. They undergo ametabolous metamorphosis (larvae look like small adults) and can live for several years.

They are considered nuisance pests. While they do not bite or transmit diseases, they can cause significant damage to household items like books, photographs, and clothing.
