Natural Habitat
Domestic environments, specifically in floor cracks, under carpets, in upholstery, and in closets with natural fibers.
Diet & Feeding
Organic materials including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and dried food products.
Behavior Patterns
The larvae are slow-moving and avoid light. They go through a series of molts over 1 to 3 years before pupating and becoming adult beetles.
Risks & Benefits
The main risk is damage to household textiles and clothes. Some humans may experience allergic reactions or dermatitis from contact with the larva's irritating hairs (hastisetae).
