Natural Habitat

Damp, dark, and cool environments like basements, kitchens, bathrooms, attics, and behind wallpaper or inside books.

Diet & Feeding

Strict scavengers feeding on carbohydrates and proteins. They eat starch, glue (in book bindings), cellulose (paper), sugary substances, and occasionally dead insects.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal, fast-running, and avoid light. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis and can live for several years, continuing to molt throughout their adult lives.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans as they do not bite or carry diseases. They are considered pests because they damage household items like books, photos, and clothing. In ecosystems, they contribute to the decomposition of organic matter; however, indoors they are primarily a nuisance.
