Natural Habitat

Primarily indoor human environments, residing in cracks, crevices, mattresses, and furniture near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, preferably humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without a meal.

Risks & Benefits

Significant public health pests. While not known to transmit diseases, their bites cause itching, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. They are difficult and expensive to eradicate.
