Human Scabies Mite
Scientific Name: Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis
Order & Family: Order Sarcoptiformes; Family Sarcoptidae
Size: Microscopic, typically 0.30 to 0.45 mm long (females) and 0.20 to 0.25 mm long (males).

Natural Habitat
Burrows under human skin, primarily in areas such as between fingers, wrists, elbows, and the genital area.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on skin cells and fluid (serum) of the host.
Behavior Patterns
Adult females burrow into the upper layer of the skin (epidermis) to lay eggs, creating wavy lines or tracks. They are more active at night.
Risks & Benefits
Causes scabies, a highly contagious skin infestation characterized by intense itching and a pimple-like rash. Secondary bacterial infections can occur from scratching.
