Size: Typically 12–19 mm (0.5–0.75 inches) in length, excluding appendages.

Natural Habitat
Found in dark, damp, and cool areas within homes such as bathrooms, basements, attics, and kitchens. They often hide in cracks, crevices, or under objects.
Diet & Feeding
Polyphagous feeders that consume matter containing polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives. This includes paper, photos, book bindings, sugar, coffee, hair, and dandruff.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and moves very quickly with a fish-like wiggling motion which gives them their name. They are photophobic (avoid light) and can survive for long periods without food.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to human health as they do not bite or spread disease. However, they are considered household pests because they can damage property like books, wallpaper, documents, and clothing.
