Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (nymph)
Scientific Name: Halyomorpha halys
Order & Family: Hemiptera, Pentatomidae
Size: Nymphs vary from 1.5 mm (first instar) to 12 mm (fifth instar) in length, while adults are typically 12-17 mm long.

Natural Habitat
Agricultural fields, orchards, gardens, and residential areas, particularly seeking shelter indoors during colder months.
Diet & Feeding
Polyphagous; they feed on a wide variety of host plants, including fruits (apples, peaches, berries), vegetables (corn, tomatoes, peppers), and ornamental plants, by piercing plant tissue with their mouthparts and sucking out plant juices.
Behavior Patterns
Nymphs undergo five instars before maturing into adults. They are often found in groups on plants. As temperatures drop in late summer and fall, adults migrate to seek overwintering sites, often entering homes and other structures.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include significant agricultural pest status due to damage to crops, leading to economic losses. They can also be a nuisance pest in homes due to their overwintering habits and the foul odor they release when disturbed. There are no significant benefits known for this species in most ecosystems where it is an invasive pest.
