Order & Family: Zygentoma (formerly Thysanura); Lepismatidae
Size: Typically 0.5 to 1 inch (12-25 mm) in length.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in dark, damp areas with high humidity such as bathrooms, basements, attics, kitchens, and laundry rooms. They prefer temperatures between 70-80°F.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on carbohydrates and starches, including paper, glue, book bindings, clothing (cotton, linen, silk), dandruff, dead skin, and sugary foods.
Behavior Patterns
Silverfish are nocturnal and move very quickly with a wiggling motion that resembles a swimming fish. They tend to hide in cracks and crevices during the day and can survive long periods without food.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite or sting humans and do not transmit diseases, so they are not a direct health risk. However, they are considered household pests because they can cause significant damage to books, wallpaper, clothing, and stored food products.
