The scalp and hair of humans, typically concentrated near the neck and behind the ears.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate blood feeders, consuming small amounts of human blood several times a day.

Behavior Patterns

They are wingless and cannot jump or fly; they move by crawling. They glue their eggs (nits) to hair shafts and live for about 30 days on a host.

Risks & Benefits

They cause itching and skin irritation due to an allergic reaction to their saliva. They do not transmit diseases, though secondary skin infections can occur from scratching.
