Burrows exclusively within the stratum corneum (outer layer) of human skin.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on human skin cells and extracellular fluid.

Behavior Patterns

The female mite burrows into the skin to lay eggs. This causes an allergic reaction and intense itching, typically worsening at night. The life cycle from egg to adult takes about 10-14 days.

Causes Scabies, a contagious skin infestation. Risks include intense itching, skin rashes, and potential secondary bacterial infections from scratching. No known benefits; requires medical treatment with scabicides.
