Natural Habitat
Found worldwide in human dwellings, typically residing in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, and crevices near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, primarily feeding on human blood, though they may also bite other mammals and birds.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal pests that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide. They reproduce rapidly, with females laying hundreds of eggs in their lifetime.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy, red welts from bites, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress or insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known ecological benefits to their presence in human environments.
