Behavior Patterns
Winged forms (alates) develop when colonies become overcrowded or plant quality declines, allowing them to disperse to new host plants. Most reproduce parthenogenetically (asexual reproduction).
Risks & Benefits
Significant agricultural pests that can cause leaf curling, stunted growth, and transmit plant viruses. They produce honeydew which can lead to sooty mold growth; however, they are a vital food source for beneficial insects like ladybugs.
