Moist, dark environments such as basements, attics, bathrooms, and kitchens, often found behind baseboards or in book bindings.

Diet & Feeding

Consumes matter containing polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives. This includes book bindings, wallpaper paste, paper, carpet, clothing, and dandruff.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and capable of moving very quickly. They undergo a long life cycle and can live up to eight years, molting throughout their entire lives. They are known for their fish-like movements.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered household pests as they can damage property like books and fabric. They do not transmit diseases to humans but can cause allergies in some people. They have no significant ecological benefit in a home environment.
