Diet & Feeding

Obligate ectoparasites that feed exclusively on human blood several times a day.

Behavior Patterns

They are wingless and cannot jump; they move by crawling. Eggs (nits) are glued to the base of hair shafts.

Risks & Benefits

Cause intense itching and scalp irritation. They do not transmit diseases but can cause secondary skin infections from scratching.
