Natural Habitat

Damp, dark, and cool environments such as basements, attics, kitchens, and bathrooms. Often found hiding in cracks, crevices, or behind wallpaper.

Diet & Feeding

Starch-rich substances and polysaccharides, including book bindings, glue, paper, wallpaper paste, cereal, and natural fibers like silk and cotton.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and extremely fast-moving. They undergo ametabolous metamorphosis (lacking larval/pupal stages) and are known for their fish-like wiggling movement and longevity, living up to 8 years.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans as they do not bite or spread disease. However, they are considered pests because they can cause significant damage to books, photographs, and valuable paper documents.
