Ground Beetle
Scientific Name: Carabidae (family)
Order & Family: Order Coleoptera, Family Carabidae
Size: Generally range from 3 mm to 35 mm in length, depending on the species.

Natural Habitat
Ground beetles are diverse and can be found in a variety of habitats including forests, grasslands, gardens, and agricultural fields. Many prefer moist environments under rocks, logs, leaf litter, or in soil.
Diet & Feeding
Most ground beetles are predatory, feeding on a wide range of invertebrates such as slugs, snails, caterpillars, fly maggots, and other insect larvae. Some species are omnivorous, consuming seeds and other plant matter.
Behavior Patterns
They are typically nocturnal, hunting for prey at night. Many species are fast runners and can be found scurrying away when disturbed. Their life cycle involves complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Ground beetles are generally beneficial as biological control agents in gardens and agriculture, helping to reduce pest populations. They pose no direct risk to humans, although some larger species may emit a foul-smelling liquid when threatened.
