Brown Marmorated Stink Bug

Natural Habitat

Found in agricultural areas, orchards, gardens, and urban/suburban environments. They often overwinter in homes and other structures.

Diet & Feeding

Polyphagous, feeding on a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants by piercing plant tissue with their mouthparts and sucking out plant juices.

Behavior Patterns

Known for their aggregation behavior in the fall as they seek shelter for overwintering. They release a strong, unpleasant odor when disturbed, which is a defense mechanism. They are active during the day and can fly.

Risks & Benefits

Primarily considered a pest due to significant damage to agricultural crops, including apples, peaches, corn, soybeans, and other produce. They are an invasive species in many parts of the world. They pose no direct risk to human health, but their presence indoors as overwintering pests can be a nuisance due to their odor and sheer numbers.
