Natural Habitat
Commonly found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas like pantries, attics, basements, wall voids, and near old animal nests (birds, rodents). They are often scavenger pests in warehouses and homes.
Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed on a vast range of dry organic materials, including grains, flour, seeds, spices, dried fruits, textiles, taxidermy specimens, dead insects, and animal feces.
Behavior Patterns
Typically nocturnal. Adults have a characteristic round or oval body and long legs, giving them a spider-like appearance. When disturbed, they may pull in their legs and antennae to 'play dead'. They are active crawlers.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a stored product pest. Their primary risk is the contamination of food and other organic goods. They do not bite, sting, or transmit diseases to humans. They have no significant benefits in a domestic environment.
