Found in bird nests and occasionally in human dwellings when their avian hosts leave.

Diet & Feeding

Parasitic blood feeders, primarily targeting birds but will bite humans if a host is unavailable.

Active hunters that move quickly. They complete their life cycle on or near the host and are most active at night.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include painful, itchy bites and dermatitis in humans. They cannot survive long-term on human blood but can cause intense discomfort and emotional distress.
