Natural Habitat
Found in damp soil and leaf litter; most commonly seen on the surface of snow during late winter and early spring.
Diet & Feeding
Feed on decaying organic matter, bacteria, fungi, algae, and microscopic organisms.
Behavior Patterns
They are active in winter due to a protein that acts as anti-freeze. They move by using a tail-like structure called a furcula to jump large distances relative to their size.

They are harmless to humans, pets, and buildings. They are highly beneficial to the ecosystem as decomposers that aid in nutrient cycling.
