Found indoors in dark, humid environments such as basements, bathrooms, and attics; also inhabits crevices in kitchens.

Diet & Feeding

Consumes starchy materials and sugars, including paper, book glue, fabric, carpet, dead insects, wallpaper paste, and cardboard.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and moves quickly with a wiggling motion resembling a swimming fish. They are long-lived (can live up to 8 years) and molt throughout their lives.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans (they do not bite or spread disease), but are considered pests because they can damage books, photographs, documents, wallpaper, and clothing.
