Natural Habitat
Nests in soil (subterranean) or damp/dry wood, often attracted to light during swarming seasons near homes.
Diet & Feeding
Cellulose-based materials, primarily dead wood, plant debris, and occasionally structural timber.
Behavior Patterns
Reproductive 'alates' swarm in large numbers after rain or during high humidity to mate and start new colonies; they shed their wings quickly after landing.

Benefits the ecosystem by decomposing dead wood and aerating soil; however, they pose a significant risk of structural damage to homes and buildings.
