Natural Habitat
Found in dark, damp, and cool areas; commonly indoors in basements, attics, bathrooms, and kitchens.
Diet & Feeding
Consumes matter containing polysaccharides such as starches and dextrin; eats book bindings, carpet, clothing, glue, hair, paper, and photosynthesis sugar.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and highly agile; they avoid light and can run very fast if exposed. They undergo ametabolous development (larvae look like small adults) and can live for several years.
Risks & Benefits
Harmless to humans as they do not bite or spread disease; however, they are considered pests due to the destruction of household items like books, wallpaper, and clothing.
