Behavior Patterns

Larvae are avoidant of light and prefer dark, secluded areas. They undergo several molts, leaving behind the hollow, bristly shed skins (exuviae) like the one pictured.

Risks & Benefits

They are a common household pest capable of damaging textiles and natural fibers. While they do not bite, the bristly hairs on the larvae can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
