Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, specifically in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, and headboards.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous (blood-feders), primarily targeting human blood but can feed on other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages, each requiring a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
No known ecosystem benefits. Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, psychological distress, and secondary skin infections from scratching; they are not known to transmit diseases to humans.
