Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on decaying organic matter (dung, fungi, rotting plants). Adults may feed on liquid organic matter or not feed at all.
Behavior Patterns
Attracted to decaying matter for breeding. They are generally weak fliers and often seen crawling or making short flights. Some species are attracted to light. Their life cycle can be rapid under favorable conditions.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered nuisance pests. While not typically vectors of human disease, they can indicate unsanitary conditions. They play a role in decomposition, thus contributing to nutrient cycling in ecosystems.
