Diet & Feeding

Feeds on skin cells and intercellular fluid by burrowing through the upper layers of the skin.

Behavior Patterns

Adult females burrow into the skin to lay eggs; transmission occurs through prolonged skin-to-skin contact or shared bedding/clothing. They are more active and itchy at night.

Risks & Benefits

Causes Scabies, a highly contagious skin infestation characterized by intense itching and red rashes. Potential for secondary bacterial infections (like impetigo) due to scratching.
